We need both tutors and students.
Tutors
We are not necessarily looking for long-term commitment. The success of the initiative will depend on the professional generosity of those who share a desire to help build capacity to improve Public Health in countries where health problems abound (although we do believe that there are benefits to all participants). Only short-term and time-limited commitment is sought, at this stage.
IT Support
If you have IT skills, can you help us with supporting the Moodle open source educational platform?
Course developers (either lead or team members)
Public Health professionals who are academic or service-based, and in the current workforce or retired, would join or lead a team and collaborate on the development of a course module. We have a template which we will provide (and which worked well in the pilot of our first course module). We already have access to a number of on-line resources that can be used. You do not need special knowledge of on-line teaching techniques as a team of IT experts are on hand to help out. We anticipate this will take about 10 hours of work only, all by e-communication.
On-line facilitators
General facilitators who commit for the length of the course module (10-12 weeks) – you may have Public Health expertise but this is not essential. You would need approximately 2-3 hours a week during the course.
‘Content experts' who will commit for a two-week spell as facilitator for one topic – this would be a topic within the course module in which you have special interest and expertise.
Assignment markers (we are working with the
Royal Society for Public Health to develop a system for assessment and awards)
Progress on course module development
More than 80 people, from 24 countries, have so far agreed to help with the development or delivery of course modules. More help is needed, please join in.
